We are a fully authorised IB PYP school. Our international PYP school is part of a larger international division at Shangde Experimental School that offers MYP (Middle Years) and DP (Diploma Program) – we are one of only two Chinese schools in Shanghai to be accredited by IB for all three programs.

Our International Division is part of an even larger highly respected local division that caters for over 9,000 students - our campus is extremely encompassing and a high proportion of our students also board.

We teach Grade 1 – Grade 5 (age 6-11) and share homeroom responsibilities with a Chinese homeroom teacher. We are only responsible for one class. We currently have 17 primary classes.

We are currently looking for one Grade 1 English homeroom teacher position - in our International Primary School - to start as soon as possible

About the contract:
Contract length: 1-3 years
Salary: 20,000-22,000 RMB (NETT) for the first year contract depending on qualification and demo lesson - THIS IS AFTER TAX
Age of students: Grade 1, 6-7 years old
Working hours: Monday to Friday 7:45am - 4:20pm
Bonus: 10,000rmb airfare (paid at the end of the contract paid upon completion of the contract)
Vacation: Approx 2 months summer vacation 3 weeks winter vacation plus 11 Chinese National holidays - ALL VACATIONS ARE FULLY PAID
VISA provided (Foreign expert certificate) (valid legal Chinese work visa all costs paid by the school)
Meals: School lunch provided

Requirements

-Bachelor's degree or above (need to have the notarisation and authentication of the degree )
-1-2 years experience needed
-120 hour TEFL/TESOL (need to have the notarization and authentication of the degree )
-Between ages of 24 - 45
-Native English speaker & citizen of USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand or South Africa only (or should have a degree from one of these countries) (FEC and work permit requirements)

Position description:
Our official day starts at 8am and finishes at 4.20pm (Mon-Fri) and within a week we will have approximately 15 contact teaching hours with the students but are in constant contact with them as it is a homeroom environment. The days and weeks are fully encompassing – but we get lots of time for independent planning, collaborative planning with the rest of our grade and our co-homeroom teachers. We also set and daily and weekly homework that is relevant to the learning objectives for the week.

If you are looking to further your career as a teacher I personally feel our school offers an excellent platform – all of current teachers take their role and responsibility seriously and really relish the changes and help that that we provide our students and also the flexibility that we have within the curriculum framework for adopting and adapting. Furthering teachers learning and providing them with onsite and external IB training via workshops is also something that we believe strongly in.

We provide lots of different events and special days (culture days, survival trips, fund-raising events, assemblies, book week, guest speakers, Christmas plays and other performances and numerous field trips). Our Grade 3-5 classes also have overseas field trips in June – G3 travel to Singapore for 5 days, G4 travel to New Zealand for 2 weeks and G5 travel to England for 3 weeks. There is always something going on!

In each class, there is 1x Chinese Homeroom Teacher, 1x English homeroom teacher and 1x Teaching Assistant. We have 25 students per class.
